READER, to what art thou trusting for comfort here below ? To wealth , to princely honours, to worldly fame, to natural talent, to acquired learning ? Art thou rich in thyself, thy good name, thy good works, thy self -righteousness, thy religious duties, thy form of worship, thy Church-membership ? Then this little volume will not suit thee .

But if thou art rich in faith , in hope, in love ; richi in thy poverty of spirit, in self-knowledge; rich in the knowledge ofGod ; rich in the possession of Christ Jesus, his beloved Son , in whom dwelleth the fulness of the Godhead, in whom centres the whole of salvation ; who is the only way of access to the Father ; ift the Holy Spirit hath revealed unto thee the unsearch able riches of Christ, the exceeding riches of his grace ; if thy riches are all treasured up in heaven in Christ Jesus thy Lord ; then thou wilt not despise this little volume. And may the blessed Spirit apply unto thy soul the little that is here said of the riches ofhis everlasting love and the much that cannot be told .
